What we want
is never simple.
We move among the things
we thought we wanted:
a face, a room, an open book
and these things bear our names–
now they want us.
But what we want appears
in dreams, wearing disguises.
We fall past,
holding out our arms
and in the morning
our arms ache.
We don’t remember the dream,
but the dream remembers us.
It is there all day
as an animal is there
under the table,
as the stars are there
even in full sun.

For the first time…

I love fragrance.  Always have.  My mother never allowed me to wear perfume when I was a young girl but I remember my older sister’s Coolwater by Davidoff and of course my mother’s Chanel No. 5.  Scents allow us to recall the most distinct memories both painful and wonderful.  I can’t recall my first fragrance but I can list every scent that ever touched my neck starting at the age of 15.  To this day, I pride myself on my perfume collection and it’s ability to transform my sensibility based on what scent I choose.  Working for Prada Beauty right out of college gave me insight into the complex world fragrance.  When I came across this Chanel No. 5 video promoting their new ad campaign I was so moved I had to share.
